In addition to combat there are also puzzles to solve, again mostly using different colored minions. The game just feels half-baked on several of its arbitrary systems. My character always felt weak, and only the minions ever felt like progress was being made. While I was definitely adding more padding to my stats, the difference never manifested in combat.
#OVERLORD FELLOWSHIP OF EVIL UPGRADE#
The same can be said of the skill trees used to upgrade each character. Sadly the new weapons really don’t make a difference in combat. There is a loot system, but it is only in-game currency used to buy new weapons and upgrade minions. Unleashing them serves as more of a distraction than anything else. Sadly minions are mostly useless early on. For being an evil Overlord, my character was weak and frail, which to be fair, is similar to the original game. Each character has a limited set of attacks, and trying to play without using minions is a quick death sentence. Each area has a set of objectives to complete, including timed sections, killing enemies, and collecting objects. From screenshots it is easy to make comparisons to games like Diablo, but this is really nothing like Blizzard’s masterpiece. There is local and online co-op, and players can switch between characters between levels. There are two ranged combatants and two melee ones. Controlling minions is still the core behind the game play, but everything else about it just falls apart at the seams.įellowship of Evil lets players choose between four different characters, each with different abilities. Overlord: Fellowship of Evil completely tosses out the third-person style in favor of an overhead view, similar to something like Diablo. It has been a while since the first two games.

So when I heard a new game in the series was on the horizon, I was excited to see how it would evolve. I loved the idea of a third-person action game with a hint of strategy involved, commanding minions was fun, and the humor was always chuckle-worthy. don't be too surprised if we hear another declaration of racingdom.įellowship of Evil is out on Steam for £12.The Overlord series was always interesting to me.
#OVERLORD FELLOWSHIP OF EVIL CRACK#
Fighting sounds pretty simplistic and unsatisfying, which is a long-running problem with the series but was less of a problem when minions did most of the fighting here, you're leading the charge.Įvery few years Codemasters say they're done with action games and plan to focus on racing games, then they have another crack and release something a bit wonky, then. At the very least, they do all agree it's definitely not a traditional Overlord - but that's not a secret or surprise.įellowship of Evil is an arcade-y class-based action-RPG, with four flavours of Netherghul to play as. Player reviews on Steam are looking pretty negative, but those can often be at wild extremes and blow problems out of proportion. Still, charging into battle as Netherghul with your human chums and a few minions backing you up still might be a lark. While the original games were Pikmin-y doodads heavy on having your little demonic minion mates do the dirty work while you stood back, this co-op-packing spin off is far more action-RPG-y.

Overlord: Fellowship of Evil is not the new Overlord game I've been waiting for.
